Job Description
career.imfdirectgov is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head Delivery Driver to lead our dynamic delivery operations in Departure Bay, Nanaimo. This is a pivotal role that combines hands-on driving with critical leadership and logistical oversight. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of delivery drivers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Plan and optimize daily delivery routes for maximum efficiency, considering traffic, weather, and special requests.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of delivery vehicles, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
- Safely operate company vehicles of various sizes, including vans and light trucks, for local deliveries.
- Load and unload goods, ensuring secure packaging and adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, records, and reports, utilizing relevant delivery software and GPS systems.
- Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, handling inquiries and resolving minor issues professionally.
- Ensure compliance with all traffic laws, company policies, and transportation regulations.
- Assist with inventory management and warehouse organization as needed.
- Implement and enforce strict safety standards for all delivery operations.
- Manage delivery schedules, adapting to changes and communicating effectively with dispatch and customers.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or equivalent)
- Clean driving record (Driver's Abstract required)
- Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a logistics or delivery setting
- Excellent route planning and navigation skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to lift and carry heavy packages (up to 50 lbs) regularly
- Proficiency with GPS devices and delivery management software
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of local Nanaimo and surrounding area roadways
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial driving experience (e.g., Class 3/Class 1 license)
- Experience with refrigerated or specialized cargo delivery
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Defensive driving certification
