Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate HGV Class 1 vehicles, transporting goods to various destinations across the UK.
- Adhere strictly to all road transport regulations, including tachograph rules, working time directives, and highway code.
- Conduct thorough daily vehicle checks (walk-around checks) before and after shifts, reporting any defects promptly.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods, adhering to scheduled routes and delivery windows.
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including delivery notes, manifests, and defect reports.
- Maintain a high standard of vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness.
- Communicate effectively with the transport office, providing updates on progress, delays, or issues.
- Assist with loading and unloading when required, ensuring cargo is secured properly.
- Represent the company professionally at all times, interacting courteously with clients and the public.
Required Skills
- Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC) / CPC.
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience driving Class 1 vehicles.
- Proven track record of safe and responsible driving.
- Excellent knowledge of UK road networks and driving regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with a variety of trailer types (e.g., curtainsiders, refrigerated units).
- Knowledge of manual handling best practices.
- Experience with telematics systems and route optimisation software.
