Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lead Personal Support Worker (PSW) to join our dynamic team in the Current River area of Thunder Bay. This is an immediate hiring opportunity for an individual ready to step into a pivotal leadership role, guiding our dedicated care staff and ensuring the highest standards of client-centered care. As a Lead PSW, you will not only provide direct personal care and support but also play a crucial role in mentoring junior PSWs, coordinating care plans, and acting as a primary point of contact for client families and other healthcare professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care to clients, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
- Lead and supervise a team of Personal Support Workers, ensuring adherence to care plans and company policies.
- Coordinate daily care schedules, delegate tasks, and ensure timely and effective service delivery.
- Act as a mentor and resource for junior PSWs, providing guidance, training, and constructive feedback.
- Liaise effectively with clients, families, healthcare professionals, and management to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Monitor client health status, document observations, and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate supervisor or healthcare provider.
- Assist with medication reminders, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and errands as per client care plans.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, infection control protocols, and ethical standards of practice.
- Participate in client assessments, care plan development, and team meetings to optimize client outcomes.
Required Skills
- Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized institution
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Personal Support Worker
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a healthcare or home care setting
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a client-focused approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., palliative care, dementia care)
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Familiarity with the Thunder Bay community resources
- College diploma or degree in a related health field
